I think it's more of a sliding scale based on the severity of the cleaning, how much of the original surface was removed, and the overall attractiveness of the coin afterward. I certainly think your coin would be affected less price wise by the cleaning than many other coins I've seen. Still a very nice piece!

Yea. I think I'm really glad I picked it up. I would probably kick myself in a year if I hadnt.
I try to keep myself from having "the one that got away" stories.

Maybe it's just me, but if it has been cleaned properly and if it can retone and look normal, I don't mind having it in my collection. Particularly when there's only 116,000 available of this coin type in the entire world. I would consider myself completely lucky to edge out all the other millions of US Coin collectors in the world that don't get to have one of these and would show this coin proudly.

No need to apologize for the cleaning. It is fairly light and not too distracting. Eye appeal of the piece is great. You have a great half dollar there!

Oh, by the way, I would say at least AU-50 details.

Yea. I asked susan to make this my new avatar. Thanks for making me feel better about this purchase. I really was fighting myself, but I knew I would regret it if I didnt. Quote: And the obverse & reverse die cracks are CRAZY! I know right! Thats why I couldn't pass it up. of the 116,000 minted, that probably what, 4 die pairs over its life? Of those, how many coins are able to be minted with that much deterioration before the die crumbles? I feel like this is a 1-10,000 coin.

Quote: Oh yea Overse: XF-45 Reverse: AU-50 XF-45/AU-50 details That's exactly what I was thinking. To much wear on the hair curls for AU, but hardly any wear on the eagle. I guess it makes it a net XF-45 though.

Yea, My dealer is the best! I think he gives me good deals cause he knows they are going into my collection, and I'm not planning on just flipping them for a quick buck.

Though to be honest, I don't know if he intended to sell it THAT cheap....I'd value this at least $900.

Well he had it marked at $500 originally when he bout in in February. Net priced it to $355 to move it, and sold it to me for $320.
He was in it for $275, so it worked out well.
TBH I think given the cleaning and wiping it wouldn't be worth quite that much. Could be though. It's worth what someone will pay.

with the XF-45 IMHO. Note that I have little experience with this series. Looks like the ware is even across the coin. Still a great pickup. BTW: Quote: Yea. I think I'm really glad I picked it up. I would probably kick myself in a year if I hadnt.
No, Everybody else would be!
