Ok, I like this coin but I can't get any of the Overton diagnostics to agree with a Die Marriage. And that frustrates me...  Any one else get something? (Please!) |

I am going a bit higher on this one and say AU-58. Looks like only a trace of rub.

Wear on the OBVERSE: cheek, breast, high points on hair, cap, and some of the rim denticles. REVERSE: eagles head, high points of the wing, talons, and leaves.
Over all this one nice BUSTIE

I'd agree with high AU on this one.. I'd guess it went AU-55. The obverse looks like it might have been gently wiped at one point?

I see an overall AU55 coin, with a possible AU58 in-hand. I'm surprised that PCI graded this as uncirculated. While I have found modern coins by them to be somewhat overgraded, I have found their grades on classic coins to be pretty accurate. I don't know how they could have missed the rub. I will take a look at the Overton diagnostics in a little bit. I have to feed breakfast to my furry babies right now as it's 5 o'clock.  |

I believe this is an Obverse 1 / Reverse A which would make it an O-101. I think this is an extremely early die state, though, as not all of the die cracks are visible and the ones that are visible are very faint. Here is the O-101 die marker description. I have color coded the text to match the arrow colors in the images.  OBVERSE 1
Star 13 nearly touches curl. Stars are sharp and well clear of the milling. Date is 10 millimeters. Small raised dash-like marks are close to several stars. There is a tiny lump midway between the 0 in the date and star 13. There is a die crack at the base of the date. Another die crack extends from the end of the bust and connects the stars on the left. (The crack from star 5 through star 7 is too faint to see in the picture.) Two or more fine spearlike lines extend downward from the back of the cap. REVERSE A
50 C. is 1-3/4 millimeters and A-A is 1/2 millimeter. The arrowheads are well separated. Line 1 of stripe 1 extends in a fine line to the seventh crossbar. Some letters of LIBERTY are usually cross marked below the right wing and stripes of shield. There are three dots (one can't be seen in this picture) and a dash below the left claw. A die crack extends from the olive leaves to the tops of UNITE to the edge above the D. (The crack is too faint to see from the olive leaf to the you and from the E to the edge. Another die crack connects ES. |

Good call Susan! I was letting the lack of die cracks point me away from O-101 (of course all the other identifiers are there...so I should have stuck with it!) Nice job!  AU-55, a real beauty!  |
