Quote: Also..Don't forget, Heritage wants to sell your coins!..And gobble up the locals! As well they should, if you're going to charge me 40% more for the same coin. If $350 is your price, and the coin is less than high AU in a reputable slab, you're only selling to people who don't know better, or are willing to pay you a significant premium for your personal dealer/buyer relationship. Any time I want, I can have AU58 in a slab for $350. http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=27163http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=24356http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...6&lotNo=9129http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...6&lotNo=9130http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=28919http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=24209http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...3&lotNo=9254http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=24406http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=20401http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=23026http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=22371http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=21145http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=20395http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=27041http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=24820http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=22703http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=22257http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotNo=12264Those are all AU58, in a slab, no "Details" grades, sold during 2011 by Heritage. 18 of them, in the last 8 months. 4 of that 18 went for over $350, and I've included those 4 in the list in the interests of honesty. And mind you, all of those prices include Heritage's 15% Buyer Premium (although buyers are going to know that and include it in their choice of bid). A close personal relationship with a dealer you can trust is a wonderful thing. It's up to each of us to decide how much we're willing to pay for "wonderful."

Dave, your work on this message board is I'm sure almost unmatched and also awesome. But, could you explain to us then WHY the suggested retail prices suggested in all the trade mags including the Grey Sheet in regards to the value of this specific coin... As a comparison(I can't think of the right word exactly),,,when we sell or buy a used car we use the Blue Book for prices and then we make offers or sell accordingly, and, at auction we can buy for sometimes less or sometimes more than Blue Book prices, but, in the end we use the price guides as a reference. I would still suggest that the OP would use the well known Coin Price Guides and not base his coins value on Heritage Auctions. Also I do not like the idea of Heritage promoting through their auctions, this would seem to cut out a reputable local Coin Dealers profit to stay in business as locals are well known to be the backbone of the Coin Hobby...Cheers!

Saw this auction on E-bay and had to post it here. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-TWO-PEACE...em2a15a57437Seems like too good of a deal to me. I realize that as of now there's 5 hours to go. But seems like someone would have bid more by now. I'm guessing fakes

Remember that it's the 1928, not the 1928 S that has the high value. For his two coins, that price is maybe a little low right now, but not by much.

Seems like these dont go up in value that fast. I purchased a 1928 Peace dollar in au-58 pcgs for $200.00 back in 1990. And everyone is saying they are only worth like $350+ right now thats not much of a gainer over the past 21 years. Now I did have a 1914-d lincoln in G6+ go from $68.00 to what like $165+ I guess there at about the same % of increase. Put a pic of your 1928 Peace dollar and we can help

I've been getting revved up looking to purchase this coin (a nice 1928) and was expecting to pay around $300 for XF, hoping it's actually AU, based on what I've been seeing.

Historically auctions prices realized are dealer wholesale buy prices, with exceptions of course. The vast majority of collectors do not attend in person, via telephone or participate online in auctions and rely upon local dealers, nearby coin shows, or ebay to supply the coins they desire for their collections. That said, in a true retail venue for collectors one would expect to pay a premium over what Heritage Auctions sells their coins for. If any of you are familiar with Collectors Corner, it's a web iste that dealers nationwide list coins at their retail price, I checked it for 1928 Peace dollars grading from XF-40 to AU-58 and here are the results. XF-40 - two listed, one certified @ $375.00, one uncertified @ $295.00 XF-45 - four listed, three certified, two @ $435.00, one @ $470.00, one uncertified @ $310.00 AU-50 one uncertified @ $430.00 AU-53 one certified @ $430.00 AU-55 two certified @ $495.00 AU-58 three listed, two certified @ $450.00 and one certified with CAC sticker @ $495.00 All of the certified coins were by either PCGS or NGC. It would be intersting to know if any of these coins were purchsed by any of these dealers from a Heritage Auction within the last eight months. Ed ANA LM-3175

I have an NGC slabbed 1928 Peace dollar in AU-58. I paid less than what is quoted above only because of my relationship with my coin dealer and the volume of money I have spent there. Without going into particulars, If I sold that coin today at the prices listed above I would realize a handsome profit in a little over 1 year of completing the set. While the 1928 is really the key, try purchasing the "S"......Don't Faint.
