Thanks for all the interests in the 1986 panda. I don't think that piece belongs to the well-recognized silver panda series, because its obverse depicts the 5-star design as on all the Chinese circulation strikes, in stead of the Temple of Heaven on the bullion series. So I am not sure where its collectable value is at.
There are a couple of such pieces listed as BIN at $90 on the bay. That's why I said I don't think it commands a high premium as other old pandas.
Are the original packaging and mintage cataloged any where? I would be interested in knowing the book value.
@miggs I am not aware that the 1986 commemorative panda came in double sealed. Through a quick online search, you could find the most common packaging would be a greenish box with a COA in blue print. The mintage is claimed to be 25,000. Mine only came with the capsule.
Btw, it cost me 40, so a good deal to me even without any packaging.

@Amaths I stand corrected my friend I have a few 5 yuan from the 90's which are double sealed but I couldn't find images for the 1986. I assumed the 86 would be too Same thing for the price but the price I quoted was from asking/bid prices and final auction price back in 2011 where silver was higher as shown here. At $40 you can't go wrong and did good. Like you said there's some on ebay at $90

@coinwatch I also like fracs but if I could choose, I'd rather yours than some of mine. US smalls were hard to get over here when I was buying.

Outstanding, miggs! I recognize a few RCM coins but several others I'm unable to identify. If you'd be willing to brag a little and maybe point out your favorites coins I'd enjoy hearing more. No worries either way, though. Thanks for sharing the photo!
