 While technically not a coin, these 1837 Feuchtwanger Hard Times tokens did circulate as cent substitutes. It took the U.S. Government 20 years to issue a similar small cent design for circulation - the 1857 Flying Eagle cent.

Hands down the eagle on the Liberty Walking half puts the fear of god into you. The eagle on the Ike dollar is laughable. Looks like you could pull the drumsticks right off. KK

Take a look at the Walker Eagle's right wing tip appearing between the drumsticks. Tell me what it looks like.
