You got a nice deal on that set in my opinion. You'll be hooked on Lincolns soon enough!

I don't really "hate" them ... and for the last few years, every time I get a set, which are invariably included in small accumulations that I buy from time to time, and many times they've been poorly stored. I will glean off any of the nicer coins and stick them in a small zipper change purse that a local bank must have given out as some kind of promotion years ago. The last set I bought was in a group of 5 albums that I bought on ebay for 30 bucks. From that deal, I kept an 1858 flying eagle, a dozen Indian heads, and a 1924-D that's real nice. I high graded a few commons from those books too .... and just sold the rest for 20 bucks. So for 10 dollars I got a nice semi key wheatie, a dozen "no problem" Indian Head cents and a "so-so" 1858 FE.

I really do have a strong preference for the classics though, the coins Washington would consider "legal" coinage. Every so often I purge my modest holdings of coins that depict dead politicians. It's just about time to do it again too. I have a few dollars worth of silver roosevelts and washingtons that I'll bless somebody else with.

Looks like it could be good deal.

Looking forward to hear how the key dates grade out.

I hate the 17 open spots in my '09-'40 album, working on filling them....

Looks like a great deal on a starter set! You'll get the bug soon enough, they are fun to collect. You got a great deal from a quick look.

I don't see many sets that have this many full red and RB coins. They're usually all brown. In my browser ... I can zoom to 400 percent of original size, and it's easy to spot the 70-S small date. When viewed alongside the large date, the spacing of the digits is completely different, so I've no reservations about that one being a small date.

I'll try and complete the easy (least expensive) end first ... 2003 to 2008 and the final memorial issues.

Much time, and many nice coins were put into this album by someone. It's a great buy as well as a 100 year anniversary set, between the shields. You can tell about what year the collector put the time into the album, average grade of many years, the care taken, and how well it was all protected from the elements. Don't bother filling the really key dates, if you do get them slabbed, do what you want with it but preserve it, add to it kindly, and it will definitely increase in value.

Pictures show a 1922-D no mint mark... ?!

Not sure if accurate but if so that's a minimum $500 coin

I'd say you got a great deal on that set for sure = even not counting the 70-s small date, you'd spend way more than $100 to put together a set in that condition buying everything individually - congrats!

Neither of the 1922 issues is present. You're seeing coins on the ensuing page. I think it was a really good buy, or I would have left it. I wasn't really in the mood for a set, but had I been specifically seeking a place to start a nice collection of Lincoln cents ... odds are I couldn't have found a set anywhere near this nice. I'm glad I was looking when I was.

I bought a similar set in a Whitman album at a public sale recently. With all the focus on silver, the bidders ignored it. It's fun to buy someone else's partial set, then work it up gradually to your own standards.
BTW I have a strong interest in non-USA silver. Let me know what you have to unload.

I will compile a list and PM it to you. I even have some medievel coins from 900 - 1100 AD. I forget exactly what they're called, but I have a small bag full of them. There are 16 of them to be exact.

I see you're account is set that you can't receive PMs from members. I researched these online to determine composition .. Here's what I have:

50% silver coins ... 1 1935 Irish Shilling probably VF or better, 1927 1 escudo, Portugal ... maybe VG at best, 1 1953 British Shilling VF or a bit better perhaps. 1 1941 British sixpence XF most likely. 1 1941 threepence to match, in similar grade. My favorite is the Portuguesa 2$50 with a nice ship on the obverse. It's dated 1951 and has considerqable mint luster yet. Total weight 26.6 grams

75% (.750) silver ... Philipinas 5 pcs 1944 10 centavos in XF-AU ... and a 20 centavos 1917-S that has something going on with the last digit in the date. I'm attaching a picture of that one. Total weight of the .750 .. 13.9 grams

.800 silver ... Canada 2 1957 quarters 1 XF and 1 AU, 1 1940 dime in VG, and 1 1945 dime in XF 16.3 grams total for the .800

.925 silver Canada ... 1 dateless quarter Georgivs V in AG, just worn. Same Devices as the lone 1920 dime that's also pretty worn, but has a legible date at least. 1 1901 5 cents "love token" 4 small holes, probably the centerpiece of a bracelet. There's 1 small link attached which is likely gold. 8.4 grams.

The medievel pieces are proving to be a little more difficult to research right now... but I knew where they were from a few years ago. They're about dime sized, crudely hammered, with a letter H in the center of the obverse. They're worth about 3 bucks each.

That's all I've got in the "non-US" silver department.
