Regardless whether the date is modified (most likely) or a die break (only a curiosity), I'm convinced the reverse is a different coin. I've never seen a Mercury with that much of a wear difference between the two sides.

This coin appears obviously to be altered, and the seller should know that if he or she has any background in coin collecting. Also the comment regarding the wear difference from the obverse and reverse is very questionable.

The pics are likely those of two different coins. Note that the seller doesn't say it's a Denver Mint coin which the reverse pic shows. Probably PMD alteration with a stock photo reverse ... IMHO!
