The company that makes all the paper for US currency is in Mass. Singles account for a huge percentage of the total bills printed. Ted Kennedy still has some clout.

Is this a possibility?

Thats one of the reasons H.R. 5818: (Currency Overhaul for an Industrious Nation (COIN) Act) sought to put both the mint and the BEP under control of the Fed. Looks like its dead this time around.

Regarding circulation, most everybody realizes they won't circulate -- not as long as paper $1 bills are made. So, there has to be a "political" reason that the paper money is not done away with. What the reason is I'm not sure, but there has to be one.
Crane Paper Company, the exclusive supplier of currency paper since 1879, has a VERY POWERFUL Congressional Lobby(Ted Kennedy and John Kerry) and has had laws passed in its favor to continue the monopoly. http://www.time.com/time/insidebiz/...8886,00.html

Did anyone catch the article in NN today about the edge lettering on the new dollars?
The proofs will all have edge lettering that faces upright when heads is up, but the buisness and uncirculated strikes will be randomly struck on the third side...does anyone else see what I see?
Read into this...in order to have a 'complete' collection you are going to have to collect the following strikes of each presidential coin:
Proof Uncirculated P (lettering face up) Uncirculated D (lettering face down) Matte Finish P (lettering face up) Matte Finish D (lettering face down)
AAAAAAARRRGH! This is as bad as the regular coinage when they started with the matte finish on the mint sets and the standard finish on the buisness strikes...
The mint is going way over the top...

I think about it. It might be the correct way to do it. With low quality control in mint, the "upside down" errors will be a sure thing. Rather than making them a modern rarity, let's just have fun to "collect" them. The more we hoard away, the better for mint. They should offer the proof in two versions, too because I think it will happen.

You won't see two versions of the proof! And hoarding them, in most areas of the country, won't be possible either as MOST banks will NOT call them out as they don't want the change. After the Federal Reserve forces a few of the first couple of coins on them they will refuse to call them out. The paper dollar rules and the banks find them much easier to count, store, carry and they don't have to roll them.

Personally, I hate paper dollars and would much rather use a coin. Here are the President dollar coins that I was recently commissioned to create as a medallion set:

Is this your official announcement that you are running? I'll vote for you as long as OldDan is your running mate. Good Luck, Berry P.S. Daniel, Have you ever done any coins on the our Rocky Mountains? I think that would make a wonderful coin.

I've owned a few medals in the past with a very small "Whitehead Hoag" marking on them. They were interesting pieces, but I don't know the history of Whitehead Hoag. Fill me in please :)

HaHa. I was going to say that I'm just a write-in candidate and leave it at that. But the new electronic voting machines don't even allow a write-in vote do they (something fishy about that) ? The only Rocky Mountain designs I've ever done are the Colorado State Quarter concepts: http://www.designscomputed.com/coins/sq_2006.html

I cant wait till the new dollars come in. Really I would much rather have paper money its easier to carry around, my purse weighs enough as is I really dont want all these coins weighting it down even more. But I do like the coins for collecting, I am makeing sure we order a good supply of all the dollar coins when they come out. Normally at the bank we never order any coins but I want to make sure people can get them and I can get some.
