The RCM is using PVC plastic to ship those loons

Did the mint use PVC on the loons that we got last year and before?

@mcshilling

Yes, they used PVC for the Roughriders loon and the Navy one... not certain about others.

I am not a huge fan of the design. The thing that really annoys me with the design is the HUGE LETTERING! It just kills the coin. And all the lettering takes up a good quarter of the design right in the middle. None of our past Loonies have had lettering like this. Why is the Mint all of a sudden doing this?

They are doing it with the $20 for $20 coins, and now they are a doing it with the Loonies. It is ugly, please, I beg you MINT, please stop!

Did they - Is it safe to keep them in there or should I be removing them?
I'm loathe to remove them from the original packaging as it strikes me as less valuable then, but if it's going to destroy the coins...

The Navy and Roughrider Loon dollar packages (5 for $5) were tested for PVC this past weekend (see link). They failed, and therefore should be removed from their packages. PVC will affect any alloy that contains copper.

I received my 5 packs in the mail today. They have the same (hopefully non-pvc) packaging as the toonies. Maybe they took so long to receive because of the change in packaging. I'll take a closer look at the coins later.

received mine today as well,five will go in 2X2s just in case.Waited so long for these that I have found more than fifteen in circulation,kept the first five and have been spending the rest.I've found more of these loonies here than 2011 magnetic cents,I'm sure in other parts of the country the situation is reversed.

Got mine on Monday. Took a while but the new, non pvc packaging was worth the wait I think.
