Ship And Eagle: Seen It Before

Looks like a polish eagle. But the stars are strange in the combination with the eagle and ship.

That eagle, with that triple-pointed "republic" crown, is definitely Polish and it's official use by Poland is definitely limited to two time periods: the "Second Republic" 1918-1939 and "Third Republic" (1989-present). On that basis, these medals cannot be older than 1918. I'd also suspect they are older than 1989, making them either a Second Republic era souvenir or a product of the Polish diaspora during the Nazi and Communist periods.

As for the sailing ship, I have a suggestion that might fit this time period. The Polish Navy training ship Dar Pomorza did a round-the-world tour in 1934-35, the first time a Polish naval vessel had ever made such a voyage and for many places the first time a Polish ship had ever visited those ports. Now, a single sailing ship doing a world tour may seem like a fairly small deal to countries such as the US, which sent an entire Great White Fleet of battleships out on world tours at around the same time, but it seems to have been somewhat of a source of national pride for Poland - to the extent that the ship was featured on the 2 zlote and 5 zlotych circulating commemorative coins of 1936.

So these crude little medals may have been souvenirs made for sale to visitors of the ship at one of their ports of call. If one of these medals turned up in Belgium and the other in France, I'd presume it was from a visit of this ship to a port somewhere in that part of Europe.
