Even specimen strikes for this series often have weak braids around the ear. The reverse is very obviously flashy and has cameo highpoints. MS

They're definitely not 'cameo highpoints' and its clearly circulation wear. Anything else is mental gymnastics.
If anyone's willing to wager the value of the coin, I'll gladly buy it and sub it to PCGS/NGC and take the under on MS60.

Quote: Anything else is mental gymnastics Whatever you say, lol.. 1858 issues often have these prooflike surfaces and cameo devices, the coin you posted is a great example of it. No interest in a wager, I cannot evaluate the surfaces properly from just one set of images and as such cannot properly grade it, but what I can say is that the coin looks like it is probably unc. You are going too far in the name of discrediting ICCS when it comes to this particular coin. The strike quality of the hair and central reverse are quite typical for such a small coin, and even some of the finest survivors will show this. The coin is probably fairly reflective in hand and appears to have some frosty cameo devices beneath that toning. A decent original looking coin to be honest.. Every series has it's inherent problems, nuances etc which TPGs must take into account when trying to grade a coin. In this particular instance I think you are pinning faults of The Royal Mint onto the grader and as such, unjustly punishing him for having an understanding of the series. Any and all grading companies have major faults and shining examples of how hard they can drop the ball, this coin is not one of them based of the provided set of pics.

If Brian Cornwell (the founder of ICCS) was still around he probably graded that coin. He would also contribute that the middle of the Revere strike was always very weak, and the Obv as well, but not as weak. He had the highest cert'd 5 cent silver collection on the planet ... they were his babies. It's weakly struck, but very dirty and I agree that it's MS.

If the photos are adequate to make a determination of mint state cameo, they're also adequate to make a determination of NOT mint state cameo. - "Yeah that's a mint state cameo coin" - "LOL no its not" - "YEAH WELL THERES NO WAY TO TELL THE PHOTOS ARE TOO BLURRY" would be the aforementioned mental gymnastics.

I am not even the one who called the photos blurry, attributing that to me in order to dismiss what I have said is pretty silly.
I do PCGS submissions semi frequently, how about this:
I will purchase the coin, I will submit it to PCGS.
If it comes back less than mint state, which you assert it will, I will be left with a waste of money in expensive plastic and have only myself to blame.
If it comes back any mint state grade at all, you buy the coin from me for double my cost plus all related slabbing expenses.
Let me know:)

So I win nothing if I win and lose 2x if I lose? It's stupid to even propose that to another adult. A more coherent wager is (Either you or I) purchase the coin and submit it to the best and most reputable trader, CACG, who now accepts Canadian. If it comes back (details) and/or Under MS60, I win. If it straight grades MS, you win. Loser of the wager eats the cost of the coin and grading, paid to the winner. Winner also gets the coin, however it shapes up. so if you win you get a free graded mint state coin, paid for by me, but if I win, I get a free details piece of crap, paid for by you, so I'm still taking asymmetric downside here. Find a trusted party here on the forum to handle the escrow and I'm in.
