New detecting show starts March 21st on Spike TV. Sorry if this has already been discussed, I did a search and nothing showed up.

I saw the first episode and I was very upset at what I saw those jerks doing. They are going to Deface the hobby of Metal Detecting. What ever happened to the MD CODE OF ETHICS ?
Blowing things up, only making MD'ing look like it's a profit hobby, just plain old disgusting.
Metal Detecting needs to stay closer to the way Archaeologists dig up a site, carefully and leaving the land like it was when you arrived. I don't care if it's in the woods or in a park. The CODE OF ETHICS need to be taken seriously. That's why people are so hesitant to give us Metal Detectorists permission to to hunt.
If you present the hobby from a historical perspective, then I have personally think landowners may be more lenient and less rude to us.

As a historian I'm less than happy with the way they handle the artifacts. Some of those items need to be left in situ and have the archeologists take a look at. If they want to go dig coins up at an old farmstead, knock yourself out, but leave the historical relics to the experts.

Apparently they found a 1907 High Relief Double eagle. I am now kind of sceptical of the show. They found it in a old milk can with about 1500 pennies that were heavly damaged by mother nature. Yet when they pulled the 1907 of of the little baggey (it convently stayed in while going through katrina) its looked brand new and in MS condition. They later sold it to who seemed to be consignment shop owner for a little over $20k

I am studying in college to become an archaeologist. I will only say that my professors are disgusted by the show, as am I.

I just watched the season finale on my DVR, and I'm just appalled. The High Relief had to have been put in there to salt the penny hoard. Rick Savage wouldn't be part of anything fake: he was a wrestler, after all...

Yes, that show sucks, and I am very tolerate of "special" shows that relate to my hobbies.

The other Diggers show is better, the one with the "Ringmaster" and "King George", although I have not found any since the first episodes.
