This is not necessarily a mint topic, but where have you guys shopped around for a nice wooden coin box?

Maybe I'll get blasted on this one: But I always go to cigar stores to find wooden cigar boxes for a wide variety of things, including coin boxes. Usually you can find a nice one for $5 if you are not picky on the brand.

Maybe others will chime in and say that cigar boxes are horrible for coins, I personally don't know because I've never checked into it. I have a nice deep Acid Wafe box I was keeping my copper pennies in until I moved those into a water jug. Now I use the cigar box to hold my 82 pennies until I have free time and can sort the zincs from the coppers.

But maybe someone has had experiences with Cigar boxes? I don't think I would keep anything valuable in a cigar box, but might be good for mass coins you collect for the interest and not the money value.

why has to be wooden box? I found RCM's monster box very suitable for coins, or a pelican 1460 or 1500 case, it's waterproof

Lighthouse has a few options for coin boxes. I went with an aluminium one from Lighthouse along with a bunch of "trays". The trays are pretty affordable at $5 each and display coins/capsules well.

I also have some cardboard air-tite boxes. Spent enough on the coins, didn't want to spend too much to store them.

Order a nice bottle of Wine that comes in a nice wooden box, usually with hinges and a clasp . Then you can drink the wine while you enjoy your collection.

Cool ideas everyone! I was just looking for one today online that holds capsules. Does anyone know of any that has different sizes in one tray? Looking for one for my gold coins that vary from $1 golds to $2.50 and $5.00 ones. I dont have enough of any size to fill one whole tray so want tray with multiple sizes. Thanks!

I've been eyeing some Lighthouse boxes for a while, but where can we buy them in Canada? I saw a few at a local store, but none of the nicer cases. And their US website doesn't take orders from here...

This is my personal favourite:

http://colonialacres.com/products.p...w=25930&ref=

Although they've been sold out for most of the last few months. Cheap, but actually looks quite nice, and can hold 80 of the quadrum square capsules (and therefore can store different size coins in the same box).

My coin box is a nice heavy steel one, it weighs about 200 pounds. I got it for free, my dad made it for me. It has about 1 cubic foot capacity. It is hidden under a common garden variety corrugated cardboard box, which fits neatly over the top of the steel one. No wood in this one!

You would need more than just a few sticks of jelly to blast it open!

I use some of the skinny aluminum Lighthouse cases, I believe they are (were) KO3LEER for a part #. The cases are compact, and the trays are cheap and easy to customize. I also have wooden ones, but I prefer the secure latching of the metal cases. I got my cases from the RCNA show a couple years back, the Lighthouse guys were on site (as I presume they still are at some shows).

THOSE types of cases are used for a variety of reasons, some of the most common being for photgraphic equipment, or if a bit smaller, a lady's beauty case.
I bought one of these second hand, at a church jumble sale for $2.

As seen here, as used for storing coins, they are excellent!

If you see one at a garage sale: no brainer, buy it. If you can't use it, your wife will!
