Beneath our radiant southern Cross, We'll toil with hearts and hands; to ear a quid to buy a coin To make this Commonwealth of ours Renowned of all the lands; for our beautiful coins For those who've come across the seas We've boundless plains to share; yes we trade and sell coins too With courage let us all combine To advance Australia fair. I think we share many of the same outlooks on things. We have been allies for many years and have faced many similar social problems as well. Gregk New Member Australia 28 Posts	Posted 05/29/2005 12:25 am Mike, We sure do have many things in common, the Amercia/Australia in having similar values and the like. I met many American Service Personnel during my 20+ years military career and still maintain contact with them and their Families (just loved that US hospitality). With history, I have often wondered what Language Australians would be speaking if there had of been no need for the War of Independence, as with that, England was forced to find other areas to set up their Penal settlements. toast Pillar of the Community Australia 1091 Posts	Posted 05/29/2005 05:24 am I don't think most Americans know that the USA was used as a dumping ground for convicts from England. Yep, after the War of Independence, England sent the convicts not to the American colonies but to Australia colonies. Australia had a gold rush also and many Americans came to Australia then. Mike Rest in Peace United States 2884 Posts	Posted 05/29/2005 06:36 am Hello Crew, as I said I think our histories are very much related. From what I have read of the Australian people as a whole, I think we share many of the same values. We have also dealt with many of the same social issues in regards to the indigenous peoples of our lands. Seemingly, the Australian frontiers were much the same as our Western frontiers. Cattle raising, farming, and a culture based on mostly rural life styles. And as you stated, many English convicts were exiled to the U.S. Colonies, and later to the Australian Colonies.
