Faustina II Denarius. FAVSTINA AVGVSTA, diademed & draped bust right / SALVS Salus seated left feeding from a patera a snake arising from an altar. RSC 195. RIC 714. Sear 5262. This is the last coin I was telling you about for this month and I am very pleased when it arrived in the mail this very morning. This is my first Faustina II coin as well as my first AR Denarius. The obverse is high relief, surprising since the seller's image did not show it. The coin looks way better in hand. I think I got a decent deal on it. I am curious what you guys think would be a good price for the coin and how it compares to what I paid for it after shipping. Please, don't look around for the coin at the various shops. It would be easy to find out then. Just guess an approximate. lol

I own two Faustina II Denarii, but neither has a Salvs reverse. One has Concordia seated left and the other has Laetitia standing right. I think both are in approximately the same condition as yours. I paid $13.50 and $11.50 respectively including the shipping. So my guess is that your coin might be worth slightly more than the ones I own. Perhaps as much as $20 including shipping?

Those you're talking about, that's way better than what I paid for it. I never saw any Faustina II Denarii that cheap, except maybe some auctions on ebay. They always seem to go higher than that.

I'll admit I think I got a good deal on both of these coins. They were from the same seller at the same time so I only paid one shipping cost which I have divided between the two coins. Here are the two images: Looking at mine now that I have uploaded them, I would say yours is in slightly better condition.

Mine was $20 at a recent show but I'd say yours might be better condition while I prefer the reverse on mine with the babies. I do have a Salus but it was $30 in 1998 and, I believe a bit better than yours due to the surface condition so I'd suggest $30 is reasonable now with many dealers trying for $50. I'll guess $35.

Gorgeous coins, gentlemen ... Quote: Faustina Minor or Faustina the Younger was a daughter of Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius and Roman Empress Faustina the Elder. She was a Roman Empress and wife to her maternal cousin Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Though Roman sources give a generally negative view of her character, she was held in high esteem by soldiers and her own husband and was given divine honours after her death. Quote: Faustina, named after her mother, was her parents' fourth and youngest child and their second daughter; she was also their only child to survive to adulthood. => man, it's always extremely cool to get the skinny-on-the-street surrounding the coin-person, eh!!?SIDE-NOTE => dougsmit => you've already given-up on your cool, new avatar?

Gil-galad nice Faustina! The obverse has great detail. I have no idea what these coins are worth but if your happy with the coin then it was worth what you paid for it. Someone told me that not too long ago on this forum. Dougsmit ... I'm with Stevex .... what's up with ditching your avatar? I liked it a lot. Just my opinion.

Thanks guys. Those are some nice Faustina II coins as well.
Doug was about the closest to the price. Before the coin went on sale, it was $30. I got the coin for $22.50 plus $4 for shipping which makes the cost $26.50 total.
I am happy with the coin. Although, I particularly enjoy hunting for coins and finding decent coins at lower costs if possible. Especially since I have a low budget.
