Nice to meet everyone! I just got into cleaning Roman coins and coin collecting. As a Ancient History grad student this is an exciting hobby for me to start. I bought cheap uncleaned coins on which to practice and hone my skills and this the fruit of my first attempt. As a poor grad student I am sure it will take a while to build a nice collection, but I can start by cleaning my own. I really enjoyed cleaning this coin. Any tips or thoughts would be much appreciated. I look forward to growing my coin collection and sharing it with everyone here!

Welcome CaesarsSon

Nice job on the cleaning of this one. I don't clean many coins but I have ten in soaking now for about four months.

There are many here who do clean ancient coins and know a lot about it. I'm sure you'll get replies soon.

Have you attributed this one yet?

It looks like you did a nice job. I no longer clean my own as I have found I get too many worthless culls. I say that, and I have an unclean lot coming soon. The difference in this lot is that I can at least tell there is a coin in there I want. I'll be posting images when they arrive. Have you attributed the coin yet? If not, there are those of us who love to. Again, welcome to this community. It's full of a good and helpful individuals. BTW, are you a grad student now and where are you going to school?

Regards,

This is my first attempt at attributing so go easy on me. This is what I think:

Jovian- minted 363-364; I can't tell the mint mark
Obv: DN IOVIA NVS P F AVG
Rev: VOT V MVLT X in a laurel wreath

Can you make out the mintmark? From what I see it looks like it could be AQVILP or AQVILS. If so then it would have been struck at Aquileia, and most likely RIC VIII 247. But, again, I am uncertain of the mintmark.
