Here is a coin that took about 7 years of hard hunting. I know of only two others in this grade (ICCS MS-64), and I have another one in MS-60 Lustrous Brown. I know less than 8 exist certified in mint-state condition. I think maybe a few more will pop out of the woodwork over time, but with several collectors hunting online and at coin shows across Canada, this is one tough coin to find in grades above VF. You can debate amongst yourselves regarding the ICCS assigned grade. Hugh Powell and I both agreed it was a "low-end 64" - but frankly, it was a red, mint state High 9, the grade didn't matter when I snapped this one up (unattributed in a raw flip).

The coin this replaces in my collection, the MS-60, is already spoken for. I am selling it at cost, to the person who discovered this variety in 2003, Jerry Himelfarb. I showed this MS-64 gem to Jerry at the recent Coin Expo, and he just about fell out of his chair. Enjoy the coin, apologies for photographic quality through two layers of plastic.

Congrats! Very nice indeed. Was ICCS willing to say high 9? Or are they sticking to their new policy of not specifying and more high 9s?

ICCS put the High 9 comment on this one for me, cost me an extra $2.

Higher, and date spacing is a bit wider of the last nine. There are two (or more) types of the last 9, one slightly higher, and one far, and higher. As for being narrower, so few mint-state examples exist, that I don't really know. Most of the ones you find are VG to F, and the 9s are worn a bit to look thicker...

Acquired at the Edmonton coin show today, at a fairly reasonable price.
