Very cool! It's too bad the date got obliterated, but it is still really neat! Error coins are fascinating!

Quote: Wouldn't it be "Double struck, rotated in collar " ? It would be. That is a more specific diagnosis, but both are used frequently by the tpgs.

Great Googly Moogly!! Now that is a special Wheatie! Since I am a nosey guy, what did it cost or did you actually find that coin roll hunting and send it to TPG?

I should have been clearer, I do not own this coin... but I tried to. I placed a max bid at 165 and someone took the coin at 168...
Very neat coin, however!

Quote: I do not own this coin... but I tried to. I placed a max bid at 165 and someone took the coin at 168... Reminds me of an error coin I bid on a while ago. It was a certified Wheat cent that was struck through a staple and the staple was still retained in the coin. It was one of the neatest error coins I've seen. I should have taken the bidding to the moon, but I didn't and I lost it. I was so mad at myself! LOL!

Yeah I though that it would have gone for a little bit more than it did. If it had the date, it would have gone for much, much more. Quote:Reminds me of an error coin I bid on a while ago. A lot of them are Jefferson nickels but some are also wheat cents. You will no doubt see another one soon if you keep your eyes open.

Hi jdbarrick
Just my 2 cents worth...The date has to be prior to 1975, because I noticed with American pennies that the "W" in "WE" was always higher than the "E" itself..Seems after 1975 they produced coins where the "W" and the "E" were even....
Just my 2 cents worth (but could be wrong)
