reverse is disappointingly worn compared to the obverse and it was cleaned somewhere in the past 200 years...but my first CBH and I like...

Good for you on acquiring a cap bust half. It's older than any of mine and has passed from hand to hand over nearly two centuries.

I just love the old big silver coins like that. Better for my old eyes to see them. And cleaning doesn't bother me a bit, the coin still has the beauty that the designer created. Nice!

Nice coin ds, first there are no bad Capped Bust Halves as far as I am concerned. I'm not sure your reverse weakness is all wear. The rim and outer detail is still high which tells me the center of the reverse might have been a little weak in the strike. Shield is bold with little wear. I think you've got a VF details coin. Most definitely cleaned some time ago.

I would imagine that the reverse was just weakly struck. I've seen some of the older issues suck this way, compared to some of the later issued coins. The cbh experts could probably tell you for sure though.

Watch out those Capped Bust Halves tend to multiply very quickly when you catch the fever! When I see a nice one that I can afford I always seem to come home with it no matter if it is already represented in the date set that I'm building. Still looking for some of the earlier years, they are much harder to locate and hoping that when I find a nice 1815 that I have the resouces to purchase it. Love the Capped Bust Halves since even heavily worn they still look great! Lastly for someone on a budget like me they are rather affordable for their age and $60-100 will get you one with nice eye appeal and decent details.

Not an expert but I would say that the wear on the reverse is more than just a weak strike. Perhaps others can chime in on this.

i agree with Joe and Indian. I can see how the wear is there and I can also see the stronger details that still exist which would normally have matching wear on this design in any denomination. Its also harshly cleaned. Still, for $60 I'd buy it again if I had the chance.

Because of the reverse, I cannot see this coin getting better than Fine Details. It's been very harshly cleaned.

Please provide lighter pictures of the obverse and an additional close-up of the date image so I can give you the Overton variety.

I'm sorry, but I need much sharper images of the date to tell if this is an overdate or not.
