I really like the coin below. I'm probably not going to bid any more for it, but I'm interested in its value. It'll help me with appraisal in future. So any ideas?

It's a Constantine I AE 3/4, Constantina/Arles and apparently scarce.

This doesn't look like a Roman coin to me, it looks as if it was made recently.

I suggest you refer it to the CoinForgeryDiscussionList@yahoogroups.com

I see nothing that makes me think it is a fake. Its actually in relatively good condition. I would be looking at $50-$75 range. I might be a bit high on the upper range.

I didn't see anything particularly wrong with it myself, and it does come from a reputable dealer, but I s'pose it always pays to be extra vigilant. It's up to $100 at the moment. Out of my league anyway!

The style is right.

I bought one recently for a fraction of that price. That is the sort of price I would expect to pay from a dealer.

Other than the weak strike on the obverse legend, it looks like a nice genuine coin to my eyes. Value? Hmmm, I have one struck at Siscia I purchased last December for less than $20 including shipping.

IMHO, Arles is worth a small premium and it is not a bad looking coin but to reach $50 I'd want a better strike on the legend. If your attraction to the item is the type rather than the mint, you should be able to find a nice one for $30. If the coin has bid up to $100, I suspect there are two people who want the specific mint or see something special here (it does have nice style). Sometimes when specialists want something to fill their set or to illustrate some minor point, they pay extra. If you don't see the difference, buy another.

This is a beautiful coin well centered with great detail. However this coin type is very common, because it's so nice I would pay from $25-$30 for it.
