Hey Everyone,

I'm sure everyone in this forum is spread out around the country (and potentially the world), but if anyone is still looking to buy the 2012 Silver Proof Set ($225) that came out in January, I noticed there are still 2 at my local post office (Main St in Stouffville, Ontario). It's been sold out on the website since about May if I recall correctly. I'm sure they could ship it to a closer post office if anyone is interested.

I suspect one can buy this set cheaper second hand, if not now than soon, but just throwing this out there in case anyone is interested.

Hi,
Which silver proof set are we talking about? I see on the USMint web site that the silver proof sets are still selling and at 67.95$/set. Color me curious. Also the 2011 is still for sale at the same price as the 2012. Oh wait are these Canadian sets?

Stgecko, if you make mistakes like that, you can delete your posting. There are icons above your posting. The one to the extreme right should be the one to delete the posting if you want. It will ask you for your password, but once you enter it, it's gone. (Now that I've posted my reply, I see that it is a garbage can icon. I think you have 24 hours to delete a posting, then it becomes permanent.)

6of♣, it's nice of you to inform your neighbors about this. I wish the US post office sold US Mint coins. It would make things a lot easier. I was considering buying one of those sets because of the silver penny, but @ $225, it's just too much.

The GP dollar and especially the rose gold plated penny will prop up the set value.

Just those two are selling for about $170+

We can still find them pretty much everywhere on posts. My opinion is that this set will go up in price. Just as dialog_gvf said, just the penny with the dollar would soon sell for the whole set price and then probably much more

This set is still available for list price at Gatewest. That shows that there is not that much demand for it. It is highly doubtful it will go up much in price given demand = supply.

And list price sets feeding profitable cracking will use those sets up eventually. Then what?

Feel free to buy all the 2012 proof sets you want from Gatewest, J&M Coins, And Talisman. Or local post offices. They are all selling at list or lower. Talisman has them for $219.99.
OK, the number of pennies taken out of the sets and sold individually is pretty small if you look at ebay completed auctions. You may see one sold in one or two weeks. How many of the silver pennies sold in a year? Less than one hundred pennies sold from cracked sets compared to 20,000 sets minted.
Plus you should realize that serious collectors who want this set already bought this set since it came out 9 months ago.
Also, the casual coin collector have the 1/2 oz penny to choose from. Why pay more than $200 for this set when you could get the same penny only larger.
Lastly there is always the next best thing. Collectors already have the Dino And Bug coins to look forward next year plus who knows what the Mint comes out with. By this time there will be the 2013 proof set out.

gate west is the largest RCM dealer, if they dont raise prices shortly after releases you can be sure there is no big demand for this issue. just look at the farewell to penny set or the 5oz. penny they upped the price almost overnight.
