I didn't see another topic for the show (which surprised me, so I may have missed it!) However, who went, and what were your thoughts?
I was headed to Toronto this weekend anyways, so I decided to stop in. I went in with about $2500 cash on me, hoping to fill some holes in my Quarter collection, and only ended up filling one.
I had only ever been to one coin show before, in my hometown of London. I was really expecting it to be a lot bigger than it was. The coins that were there were generally of very high quality, which I appreciated, but of the list of about 10 KGV quarters I was looking to find in MS60 - MS63, I only found 2.
There were a couple other coins that caught my eye, and the dealers seemed to have no idea what the coins were worth. There was a 1950 ICCS SP-65 quarter for sale that interested me, because I have the 1951 and 1952 in the same grade. TCNC auctioned a 37 and 50 ICCS SP-64 a year or two ago for $140+premium+taxes. I figured something in the $250 - $300 range would have been fair for the coin, and when I asked about it, the guy wanted $1500 firm!!
Paying for parking and admission also made it less attractive to me.
Just wondering how everyone else enjoyed it.

Lately I have been pretty disappointed with the Torex Bourse. To me, it seems like every show is the exact same stuff as the last one. Also, like you said, dealers are always trying to get full catalogue values for their coins, when on ebay you can get the same coin for a fraction of the price.

Very high end coins.
Saturday was busy.
I had to go back Sunday and it was a ghost town!
Many dealers packed up after a couple hours Sunday.

It was a great show killed by its own administration. Collectors (and some dealers as well) migrated to the downtown Toronto Expo.
TOREX became a show for dealers trade stock, not for collectors to buy coins.
About one year since my last TOREX, and don't intend to go back ever.

Many dealers packed up after a couple hours Sunday. That is something else that really annoys me. A couple of times, I could only make it the show on Sunday, and half the dealers were gone. Yet, they still make you pay the full admission.

Try the next Coin Expo, in June. Parking is a bit tough, but the bourse is fantastic... and there is southern Ontario's best coffee (Balzacs) right in the same building....

I envie you guys in Ontario and Alberta, here in New Brunswick we have NO coins shows or shops and rely on E-bay/internet auctions. Glenn

Quote: Try the next Coin Expo This was the first year I made it to the Coin Expo, and I thought it was outstanding! It is my new favorite (Canadian) coin show, for sure. Quote: and there is southern Ontario's best coffee (Balzacs) right in the same building.... I wish I knew that earlier, I seen them on Dragon's Den, I would have stopped in and bought something.

Didn't go to the show but checked in on the auction looked like there where a few lots not selling. Couple things caught my eye but too much when you add the BP and tax

Way too high a price to pay at auction when you add the BP and taxes.
In the last 25 years, I've only attended two coin auctions and have only purchased once.

So Glenzy: open up your own shop. What are ya complainin' about! :P (teasin') Admission is pretty bad but I do like some of the dealers there. Not all, just some.
