Nice coin, merlin. I collect Morgans, but I love the canadian silver coins. You've done well for your first try.

I to think you did very well on your first try. I have a hard time with nice clear silver and copper-nickel coins. I tend to get bright spots from lighting. keep trying different things as you are off to a great start.

Thanks for your comments. I used an overhead light this time. I'm building a stand with lights at 10 and 2 o'clock. I'll try it alone and with overhead light.

I would like to increase the detail. I try with P mode, iso 100 and on the macro setting but the ISO is 2500. Ican't change the ISO on macro mode with this camera.... I also set my lense to 55mm on a tripod with a delay of 2 seconds.

I have to find the exact minimum distance from the lense I can be and take the picture.

Ounce more, thanks for your comments and tips!

Great start. ebay sells extension tubes for sony cameras for less than $7. This way you can get closer to your coin in Program mode without using the macro mode on the camera.

Wow! Thanks for the information. I just order my extension for 7.5$ with shipping included! This will be a good help!

With the extension, you get more detail using the Program mode instead of the macro?

Thanks?

You should be able to get more detail. An important point to remember, is that your camera must be at an exact 90 degrees to the coin because the depth of field will be very shallow. It appears that you missed the exact focus point on the reverse of your example.

Hopefully you will have enough detail to fill your screen several times over and will see things you never imagined were there. Eventually, you may want to buy an older but still good Macro lens. I got my 1:1 Vivitar M42 mount (needs $5 adapter) manual focus 55MM MACRO lens for about $100 on ebay. It works great on my Sony A77.

A nice, but not too expensive copy stand also works great.

I try a second one. Ikea is too far from my house so I bought 2 LED lamp wich are flexible at Wal-mart. For this second one, I try to take the picture inside de 2x2(wich is not a great idea!). Unfortunately, I can't do any more test, my battery came down after the first picture. Here's my second try with my two lamp with LED. I bought an extension on e-bay 3 days ago..

This is not the exact set I have, but I use this on my A350 and it works great.
