Here is a new one for this newbie I picked up in the $10 tray at my local shop. Anybody have info or stories on this coin? Was it a good value? Does it "count" towards building a 12 Caesars collection? (please forgive the blurry cell phone picture, I need to invest in a new camera)
This is a Roman Provincial coin. I suppose you could include this in a 12 Caesar collection. Although, I myself am trying to build a collection of the rulers from Roman Imperial coins.
I believe your coin to be an Augustus provincial AE As, RPC 129, struck 19/18-2 BC at Colonia Patricia (modern day Cordoba - spain) OBV: PERM CAES AVG, laureate head left REV: COLONIA PATRICIA in two lines in wreath This is an image of my coin:
Thanks, Gil, Eng, and Bing... I read up a little on Augustus and his visit to Iberia. That's one of the nice things about these Roman coins, a person can look up the coin and find out the history behind it, and how events like the Roman occupation of places like Spain shaped future history.
