No problem, glad to be of help, we were all noobs at one point!

His 'joblots' look OK to me, I cant be 100% certain but from the pictures but I see no problems, he is using these to build confidence in his buyers so you probably have nothing at all to worry about. If the price is right you may even get a bargain.

Your other purchase from him is almost certainly fine too, if its the same kind of coins, stick a picture on if you want 100% confidence in them.

Its good you asked the question before pulling the trigger, most sellers on ebay are OK but occasionally we get these issues, at least as a group we can look out for each other, sadly someone just spent £220 on that fake Carausius

These are the coins that I bought a few days ago(minus three as I sold them to a friend.), they seem OK in hand however I'm sure your expert eye will be able to tell if the coins are hooky or not. If these get the all clear I might consider snapping up the other lots.
p.s I haven't had time to attribute them yet...

They are fine, the first one in your pictures (I wont ID it incase you want to) has an odd style but its also OK.

Excellent, I was a bit concerned about the first one as the head is very prominent(its like a seesaw on a flat surface). I have only got at far as ID'ing it as Crispus, going to ID properly now. If you are able to ID the other two please feel free as (to me) they seem a bit odd; the writing on the second confused me with the "ELIVL"? in front of "CONSTANTIUS-NOB" and the third I can't pick up any detail on the obverse to ID the Emperor.

Is the first one:
Nicomedia RIC 32 Crispus AE3 Reduced Follis. D N FL IVL CRISPVS NOB CAES, laureate & draped bust left holding globe, sceptre & mappa / PROVIDENTIAE CAESS, Jupiter standing left, chlamys across left shoulder, holding Victory on globe & leaning on sceptre; palm branch in left field; dot over A in right field, SMN in ex.

My coin matches the description however the Wildwinds example is different; its the closed coin I could find...

Your correct with the first so I'll let you carry on.

2nd one is:

Constantius II
FL IVL CONSTANTIVS NOB C
PROVIDEN-TIAE CAESS

I think the mintmark is SMHGammaDot making it either RIC VII Heraclea 65 or 84, I'm not great with campgates so could do with others having a look at this to confirm which one

Thanks for the ID of the second, I still think there is a possibility that my three are fake. I have noticed numerous flaws/differences which don't seem to add up. The first thing is on the first coin; the coin matches the description on Wildwinds but not the picture. The gap between the top of the head and the "SPVS" of Crispus is different. Also what is described as a palm branch looks different also.
The second thing can be seen on the second coin. The writing is prominent however if you look on the bit where it reads PROVIDEN-TAE above the campgate the hole in the "A" is non-existent, same goes with campgate itself and also the "O" of "NOB" on the obv. Am I picking up on known flaws or do they mean something more sinister?

3rd one is a 'Fel Temp Galley'.

It looks like Constans to me:

DN CONSTA-NS PF AVG
FEL TEMP-REPARATIO

The mintmark looks like TESA meaninf workshop 1.

If its 22-23mm in size its RIC VIII Thessalonica 109;
If its 17-17mm in size its RIC VIII Thessalonica 120.

Don't worry about these, coins from matching RIC numbers will more than often look slightly different but have the same things on the coin. Many, many dies will have been used throughout the 'life' or 'run' of a coin (RIC no) and as they are all hand cut they will be different. Hundreds of thousands of coins from thousands of dies in some cases.

Indeed on these later Roman coins finding a die match for a coin can be a worrying thing!

Try looking at the 'IOVI CONSERVATORI CAESS' Crispus coins to get a match for yours

Thank you. I will hopefully bid and win his joblots so fingers crossed they are not hooky. The only problem is I will be unable to inspect them until the 25th as they are being bought by my mother as a Christmas present. Could even pick em up from him as he's about 5 minutes down the road...

Also BTW who was Septimus Herodes, I Googled it however it did not turn anything up?

To be honest I'm not entirely sure myself, that was his auction title, was going to see what I could find out about it today. The auction has ended but I know the reverse was a FIDES MILITVM, I suspected it was a fantasy piece.

Have you nailed your Crispus yet? Wildwinds does have an example of it with a picture.

Not completely yet. I have been looking at two which are both similar however not an exact match.
This one is similar however the writing is different, this one reads PROVIDENTAE Whereas mine reads CONSERVATORI.

This one below has the correct writing but a different bust and mint mark; I'm pretty sure mines SMN for Nicomedia not SMANT for Antioch?

Is it really a tricky ID or am I just being stupid?

Must admit it took me a lot longer than usual, so if you are we both are

I think its one of these:

How-Much-Is-This-Coin-Worth?
How-Much-Is-This-Coin-Worth?

DN FL IVL CRISPVS NOB CAES, bust left.
IOVI CONSERVATORI CAES, Jupiter standing left.
Wreath in left feild, H in right.
SMK mintmark 'Sacra Moneta Kyzicus' Cyzicus being in Turkey.

I'm not certain, not had a chance to check (my books are not available to me atm) but I dont think this coin is in RIC, its attributed as Sear 3920 on wildwinds.

The bust is very stylised indeed, I like it!

Ah that looks more like it! Thank you. I managed to get 4/5 of that guys coin joblots all for pretty reasonable prices. Four lots for £33, spotted a nice Probus in there and also a few nice Aurelian's in there too. I think the 'K' coin may be my first nice Byzantine too.(other than a very worn cup.)
Here are my wins, This is all the info I will be able to provide until the 25th because its meant to be my Christmas present. I just hope they are all legit and I have done reasonably well for the money paid...
