Desert patina looks absolutely gorgeous on Roman coins if cleaned correctly. I just bought this coin and this is one such example of proper cleaning of this type of patina. Coins like this are some of my favorite. I picked this one up for a song, under $15. I am finding my nich in ancient collecting. I find that I am mainly drawn towards coins that show striking desert patinas and also Provincial coinage from the early 2nd century to the early 3rd century. Maybe we can start a thread showing off our coins with desert patina! Constantine II AE Follis. Antioch, 325-326 AD. 19mm, 3.4g Obv: CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left Rev: PROVIDENTIAE CAESS, campgate with two turrets, no door and one star above; SMANTI in ex. RIC 65, Rated R3 (Very Rare)

Two Constantinopolis commemoratives from Rome, with two different colored sand patinas. Probably buried in different soil conditions at different places. I still don't fully understand the mint marks at Rome on these types. CONSTANI NOPOLI / R wreath E CONSTANTI NOPOLI / RBE
