Hey everyone ,

I recently found a King James bible 2 pound coin , it was given to me as change in my local shop. I was wondering how rare it was and if it was worth anything. I did a few searches and apparently its worth 3 times its value the advice given via a simple google search was to hold on to it for a few years.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks guys.

It's worth about £2, you might get more on ebay if you're lucky. Maybe it could be worth a little more in a few years time, you never know.

They are worth more than £2 - they are pretty scarce. I havent come accross one. People have been looking for them - I can tell you that. Most have been sucked out of circulation.

I've just seen an auction end for one (EF pulled from circulation) and the total price was £3.60 inc. postage. So yes, they are worth a bit more than face, but when you take fees into account you probably would not make much profit selling it on ebay.

On The Royal Mint web site, the mintage figures still only go up to the end of 2011.

http://www.royalmint.com/discover/u...o-20p-issued

Only the standard £2 coin is mentioned - 3,185,000(Technology)

The comment on the page is updated and revised, January 2012 when you look at the page for the 1/2 pence to 10 pence coins.

There were lots of bidders ......it seems demand for this coin has been creeping up a bit recently and there are many bidders jostliing for this coin ......

Saying that someone sold an olympic 50p ciruculated for more than you could buy it from the mint for, some people just seem to lose their head.
