my first post on the coin forum,im usually on the stamp forum
i came across this in a collection I recently purchased
any idea on what this is?

A few things.
It is Edward v11.
Double sovereign?No
Gold doesn't tarnish like that.
If it is a sovereign it will be 22.05mm dia and weigh 7.98g

hi peter,
im not off to a very good start,
dont know why I said kgv
i didnt think it was gold as I can see base metal showing through,coppery colour and obviously the verdigris (if thats the correct term)with lots on the back
the diameter is around 22mm on a ruler

While the design is similar to that of a sovereign, there are significant design differences. Poor old Eddie 7 didn't have that much hair, for starters, and the "BP" designers initials to the right of the date are missing.

As for what it is, you've got me. Being two coin-designs fused together like that, it wasn't an attempt at making a fake coin, nor even a card game counter or piece of play money. What's on the other side; is it blank? Perhaps it was made as a belt-buckle or some similar cheap imitation-gold costume-jewellery piece.

hi,the back is plain,has a tiny spot of solder,no join one piece
i wasn't sure if coin images were allowed to be reproduced like this?
