This is the same thread I started yesterday. I was trying to see if someone would comment on this coin with a negative but it didn't happen. Maybe that's a good thing. When I found the coin it was in a flip marked:
Indian-Head-Cent-1873---Cleaned-Or.....

In my opinion, I feel the coin is an improper alloy mixture or 'Woody' and not a cleaning like the dealer thought. I'm I right? Am I wrong? Woody with an old cleaning? Thanks for the help.

It was very hard to capture the exact color on this penny.

Nice looking cent. It looks like it's the Open 3 variety.

The coin shows obvious wear so yes, it has been cleaned.

A cent in this grade should be completely brown.

While it does look cleaned, it does not look harshly cleaned to me. It also shows signs of an improper alloy mixture but isn't a bonafide woody.

$32 (if that's what you paid) sounds like a very fair price.
