Ben Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 4208 Posts	Posted 04/21/2013 2:32 pm I would say about $10. The method of cleanng, the advanced wear and the missing legend doesn't make it a strong coin. That being said, some people love sestertii and I've seen them sell high. I have ruined a sestertius by stripping its patina - give something shiny to show people if they ask about coins. Unbreakable too. Id use this as a nice example - Orichalcum (brass) is supposed to shine as if it were gold. Report this Post to the Staff
FVRIVS RVFVS Pillar of the Community United States 3447 Posts	Posted 04/21/2013 3:40 pm Desirable reverse SENAT(VS). The fact that someone 'carved' a J into it hurts. J is a modern letter ergo much more recent defacement. Personally I would spend closer to Bens estimate. But I am a cheapskate. Pretty coin though .... A bit of 'aging' couldn't hurt. Hadrians reign had ended poorly with treason trials and executions. The Senate was so happy to have such a decent fellow sitting on the throne that they awarded him the honorific PIVS.
