Haven't broke out the Cohen book on this one yet, I'd guess a grade of around VF25? Love this series of US coins - my new addiction, thanks for sharing.

I'd guess XF. I don't know much about grading Half Cents, so that's a real guess.

nary a clue however, that is one sweet looking piece of history. I do not own a coin like that yet but one day I hope to add it to my type set.

Cohen-11 variety, with a rarity of 3+!
This is a very desirable variety, with nice retained luster, and an absolutely great look.
I'd grade it VF35, but I could be persuaded to go higher if the flatness is indeed strike. It's so hard to tell from photos.

OK, here are the results Yes, this coin got a details grade, apparently for 'cleaning'. I do not know why it received this grade, and nobody else commented on it, but you are all close on the details Has this coin really ben cleaned? There are no abrasion marks from cleaning, and there is still a bunch of gunk and dirt from circulation in the leaves on the upper right of the reverse. I also know that the coin has been in long term storage since 1963, and was in my family before that. I was VERY surprised at the details grade. Does anybody think this is a candidate for a re-grade? Thanks for all the comments!

I don't see clear evidence of cleaning, but that can be VERY hard to see in front-on photos, especially in copper. If there was a cleaning, it was a while ago.
In my limited experience, old copper was often burnished, rather than abrasively cleaned. When you turn the coin, you may see a "too-smooth" or "polished" surface, where any roughness has rounded edges.
The only questionable areas I can see are the spots of bright copper color on the lower right reverse. Other than that, the toning looks absolutely authentic, with the lighter, retained mint luster in the protected areas (as it should be) and the steel color on the high points, which is not only normal but attractive. Often in cleaned copper, the dark and light areas are reversed.
If this were my coin, given the rarity and desirability, I'd definite try again, either at PCGS or NGC. I also might pay for variety attribution, if available.
