Once again I have been hasty. In my desire to save on shipping I probably over did it ...... again

Commodus AE Sestertius
Sear #5823 RIC 411
26.93 grams 30-32mm
Roma seated holding spear and Victory shield at side.
AD184

I have always been a sucker for the Roma reverse

Julia Mamaea AE Sestertius
Sear #8235 RIC 705
20.05 grams 29-32mm
VENUS VICTRIX Venus standing left holding scepter and helmet
AD231

Poor Julia the corrosion on the mouth makes it look like she just lost her lunch

Severus Alexander AE Sestertius
SEAR #7979 RIC 635
MARS VLTOR Mars striding left holding spear and shield
18.95 grams 29-31mm

This is the one I had wanted originally

I started buying from this 'fellow' last year.
Beautifull nicely patinated bronze which looks like it all came out of the same 'find'.
Then suddenly he had some which were horribly cleaned.
I messaged him and told him that cleaning is an art and he should leave well enough alone (when in doubt .... don't do it). These all have the look of being cleaned but less so and now they also seem to have been coated with a 'preservative'.
I think I will keep Alexander and 'flip' the other two next week. The budget is tight and when in doubt ..... "Punt" !

I could send them back but I really don't like to do that unless there is something really wrong with the coin.

It's funny how that works sometimes that thought that runs through your head going 'oh I can totally afford this coin and it will save on shipping!' and all of a sudden you have extra coins that you didn't mean to buy (or win) in the first place.

Poor Julia she really does look like she is having a bad day on that coin and Commodus looks like he is taking a nap.

Out of all the Severus Alexander is indeed the best, but even with the overcleaning and damage the other two are still nice to have if you don't already.

Well I didn't have a Julia Mamaea and she was only $30. So I justified it. Commodus ..... well he was too steep and I honestly don't know what I was thinking (probably that I could 'improve' his demeanor). Alex was a reasonable $65. So ..... I will toss the two up for grabs next week.
Probably my Septimius Elephant reverse too .... I need to regroup !
