Is that an "H" carved on the cheek? EF-40. Possibly details-- graffiti.

Looks like an XF-40 as well. And it looks to have the "86" in the denticles, it's tough to confirm for sure off of your pics. But if is, we're looking at a snow-2 on this one!

I'm thinking VF35 just a hair away from a full EF coin.

Quote: I'm thinking VF35 just a hair away from a full EF coin. I'm wondering what makes this coin in your opinion short of XF. It has full separation of the ribbon from the hair, 3 clear diamonds + one vague, clear LIBERTY and sharp necklace. Is it the cheek? the hair tips?

Quote: I'm wondering what makes this coin in your opinion short of XF. I am thinking there was a cleaning in the past and all the nicks and hits on the obverse mainly, will bring it down it may not detail for the cleaning but would go VF35 okay or EF40 details cleaned, a toss up either way. The photos are a bit over exposed so the coin gives a washed out look to me, maybe if the exposure on the photo was down a stop or so, I might be able to grade it better. The diamonds not looking full are also a step down to me. but agreeed it's very close to EF and could go either VF or EF. The necklace, ribbons and diamonds are all washed out on my display so I can't really tell if there is full seperation but if you say they are then I'd go EF40, as I trust your eye as much as mine, at least you and I tend to agree on a lot of coins posted here in the grading forum anyways.
