Hi Steve, Welcome to the Forum.

The coin is from "Netherland Indies" sometimes listed under "Netherlands East Indies", which are the islands between south east Asia and Australia that were controled by the Dutch between 1816 till 1945, when "Indonesia" declared it's independence. It's listed in my book under Indonesia.

There are three types of 1c coin. The first was minted from 1855 to 1912. The second type 1914 to 1929. The Third type is easy to tell as it has a hole in the center, minted 1936 to 1945.

Now 1898 had a mintage of 36,600,000. Approx values range from $1.50 for Fine, $3.00 VF, $5 XF to $8.00 in Uncirculated. But my book is nearly 20 years old. LOL.
This coin is copper.

BUT if you have one that is "Yellow Bronze" it is listed as "RARE" and no price given. So I hope you have this one.

I often wonder what all the squiggles are on the back of these coins. LOL

Those squiggles is the javanese/arabian translation of the front side toast.

Greetings, Carl
