I will soon be I the market for a 1936 D Washington quarter. I am looking for a solid XF to XF 45. How much should I pay? What should the coin look like? Can anyone post what a true XF looks like? Thanks!  |

Hi Rigoletto, This ANACS XF45 coin sold for $115 in a Heritage auction in 2005. That price included buyers fee but postage and tax (if applicable) would have been extra. I couldn't find any more recent auction records for certified XF45 coins, but I expect they would cost more in 2007. The Coin Market retail price guide for 06/2007 shows $55 for the 1936-D in XF-40 and $275 in AU-50. I'm sticking with my VG example that cost about $3.00!   |

obverse: flatness on almost all hair curls, especially around the ear. the field, face, and neck will have some wear.
reverse: breast and leg feathers are flat; some detail on the outer and inner wing feathers.

When I'm looking for a specific coin and it's raw, I usually look at the Teletrade auctions and the heritage auctions and compare them to some of the slabbed coins.

 with Amazon...I always find myself comparing stuff I get to those sites with slabbed coins. |

Same coin is on my list for a long time. I only buy at coin shows and for some reason that is one coin that just is not available in AU or higher. My Washington sets are all MS grades except for the 32's and that evasive 36D.

I'd call this one choice VF, just shy of EF. It looks pretty nice, though and the current bid of $20 plus $3 P&I seems reasonable. If you like it, I say you should go for it. I'd buy it for $23 just to put it in the prize raffle at my next coin club meeting!  |
