I wouldn't keep them in a jar, they will contact each other too much. Put them in rolls or better yet...tubes. Mint coins in tubes resist the spots a lot better than in paper rolls.
Nice find!!

I wonder if you have enough examples to put together a progression of the date doubling. I don't know much about minting but it seems likely that yours were minted at about the same time. I once saw a progression of Voyageur reverses showing the pines disappearing behind the canoe (or something like that - it was 40 years ago); perhaps something like this with the 79 doubling would fetch a premium?

Nice find! I love REAL copper cents. My collection runs from 1908-1996. No zinc or steel plated in it.
The doubling on the date is icing on the cake, too.

Quote: i haven't counted but I'm sure I have over 100 double date coins so far. I am keeping them in a jar with a lid and I have ordered 1000 2x2 holders and I dont think I have any ms-65's yet but I'm sure I will find a few I think most are ms-63-64, I'm going to keep a couple of each variety (triple cocoon filings on leaf die clash etc..) but thats it as I will try to sell some "partially" searched rolls as well as never opened rolls and I might try to sell some singles as a buy it now If you find MS-63/64/65 with double dates then those should sell quite well.

you definitely have some horseshoes going on. 1- the bank actually still had some cents 2- they hadnt returned them to the mint yet 3- they werent allowed to sell them to you
and then you find these...what a find.
my $1500 worth of cents that I bought before the no more pennies date, has yielded a few 1979,76 rolls etc, but they were re rolled by someone (i would say around 1979 or 80) as the appearance degrades substantially as you go backwards. hopefully I find some nice examples like yours.
also I need to ask about these tubes. would the plastichange rolls be good enough?(you know the ones that button up the side). I hear the americans talking about tubes but I assumed it was because they dont have the plastichange ones. at least thats what I gathered when I brought a roll to montana and was asked where in the world I got it.

Wazzappening, tubes are better than plastic for many reasons, such as diffusing sunlight and preventing it from hitting the coins directly as well as easily labelled and stacked for storage.

Think of all the quality cents you've saved from destruction that will get distributed to collectors who'll take care of them.

sorry to boost an old thread I just thought I would let you know how this has worked for me, at first I started listing these 1 roll at a time in auction format and the first few rolls averaged US $50 - $80 a roll and as time went on the price started dropping to where I stopped auction format and started selling buy it now for US $30 per roll or best offer ,i have sold around 125 rolls now ranging from US $1.04 - $80 per roll with an average guess of around $25 a roll, I still have some on ebay and periodically still sell a few (sold 25 rolls last week) but I think I might sell just a few more and put the rest away for a couple decades to see how they sell once the market has dried up after being flooded! and maybe I will once again wake up this thread to show results in the future

very nice.... I was buying OBW rolls from 77/78/79 for $5 when I was getting rolls from 1953-Date (only date I was missing was 1954). I actually found a few rolls had penny's rotated dies, about 50-60 degrees. Think I had found 8 in total averaged $50-100 a piece. The DD coins I sold for $3-8 a piece
