1951 Franklin Half - Significant Die Break

ndwlegal Valued Member United States 160 Posts	Posted 11/09/2013 02:39 am I purchased a 51 Franklin half today and noticed a fairly significant die break that extends from the lower part of the bust on the obverse all the way to the right side of the coin. I haven't been able to find anything similar online, but it is so obvious to the naked eye I would imagine it is a known variety. Anyone know anything about this or where to look? ndwlegal Valued Member United States 160 Posts	Posted 11/09/2013 11:44 am Here is a pic from my phone. Not great but it shows what I am referring to. I believe it is DDR-009. I can't see the doubling, but the stage 3 explains the die crack perfectly. I am awful with varieties and honestly don't know what half the abbreviations on that site mean, but I saw this and thought it prominent enough to buy it. Report this Post to the Staff
pyrbob Rest in Peace United States 1943 Posts	Posted 11/09/2013 2:20 pm It looks like a die crack and not a die break. Die cracks (and die breaks) are errors and not varieties, that's why you are not finding it on a list of varieties. Report this Post to the Staff

I cannot see the doubling on the reverse, but the obverse die crack is spot on as the DDR-009 describes in stage 3. Report this Post to the Staff
