Hope this brightens things up...assuming the pics come out ( I'm new to this ). Found these two last week in a field just outside Chester. I've not yet attempted to I.D them so if anyone wants to try then I'm more than willing to listen. Thanks in advance for any help.

I edited your post so that the images would show up directly in the post. If you click on the edit button, you can see how I did it.

The lower pic is upside down. Here is the picture right side up.

How large is this coin? It looks like it may be a Trefoil pellet issue 1443-45.

I just love old hammered silver coins. It would be a great vacation to visit Europe with a metal detector!

The full coin is 1.5 cm wide & the half coin is 2 cm wide, taking slight clipping into consideration.

The full coin appears to be the size of a silver penny. I'm having difficult reading the inscription, so I'm trying to place the reign by the portait and crown. It may be Henry VI. If you can make out the perimeter lettering, could you post that here? That would help.

I've studied the full coin a bit more. Long cross penny obviously. Has the letters DOn ( pellet side ) so I'd say that was the London mint. The face side seems to have a hrD to the left of the face which may signify Richard but my Latin is not too good & the letters are not overly clear. The half coin I haven't really got a clue as of yet apart from the fact it's a clipped long cross penny. The lettering is not clear enough to me.

Looking at the curves in the hair and the crown style, coupled with the letters that you identified for me, I think it may be an Edward III silver penny. I can't give you a specific Spink# on it without knowing the rest of the inscription. What a cool find!

I can't even attempt the half coin from pics. Sorry.
