At what point is a bill considered to have a low serial number? for example would their be a premium on a bill with 0002300 for a serial number? or should it be lower than that?

Anything under 100 or so is supposed to be low.  |

Technically, anything under 1,000 is considered a low number. However, most collectors prefer under 100.

I had seen a set (birds series) all 0000204... I sent the guy an offer but he didn't even reply on the bay (sad face) would've liked to have had that one as I live in Manitoba (our area code is 204)
But yes generally under 1000 and preferably under 100.. but if I ever come across a 9999999 note.. I won't pass it down... LOL

Some years ago I worked in an antique store and we had a small case of coins and bills. One 1973 $2 was number 0000007, though I don't remember the letters in front. This bill was crisp, absolutely mint -- whoever found it must have pulled it straight from the brick and put it into its protective case. It was priced at $250, and for about a year we had collector after collector drool over it, but nobody bought. I don't collect bills myself or I might have been tempted, but I wonder -- what would a bill like that be worth? Was the dealer out to lunch or did a bargain slip through everyone's hands? I realize that the letters can make a difference in price, but I think about it sometimes... who knows, maybe a James Bond collector might've ended up with it...

$250 is the book value.
There would be some added value if it was a replacement. (Asterisk (*) in front of the prefix)

I personally prefer numbers under 100. However, if the number is something like 500, it still works well.
