allranger Pillar of the Community United States 1391 Posts	Posted 03/03/2014 2:25 pm Some of my Byzantine Follis have a large 'M' like that on the back. Unfortunately, I have only tipped my toe in that end of the pool and can't offer any more information. I do think that the large 'M' is unique to Byzantine coins though, so that at least narrows it down. To the left of the 'M' I think I can make out an Anno. On the right of the 'M' it looks like 'II'. The mint mark should be below the 'M'. I see what could be an 'o' and some markings I can't identify on each side. The reverse scan is not too good but I think I see the figure on the right holding an orb surmounted with a cross. Thank you very much for the link. Now it's time to get cross eyed.
