Excellent news on the nickels. Last time I saw SPP/Mike's table it was one of the most organized I'd seen, and interesting pieces, too. Now I have to get there early.

NEWS RELEASE: May 23, 2014 (Toronto, ON Canada)

The "Royals" are Coming To The Toronto Coin Expo

The Royalty of Canadian banknotes are coming to Toronto, to be auctioned off by Geoffrey Bell Auctions at the Toronto Coin Expo May 29, 2014. The Bell auction features some of the best-of-the-best in rare Canadian banknotes. "Investing in top quality numismatic items is taking the world by storm, and Canada has rare items that the world banknote investor and collector are after" according to Brian Bell, President of Geoffrey Bell Auctions.

The Emperor of Canadian banknotes is undoubtedly the highest grade 1925 Dominion of Canada $500 note featuring the portrait of King George V. This is the best of only eight such $500 notes known to exist, and its PMG Graded AU50 condition makes this rarity an outstanding trophy note. This auction highlight is estimated to sell for $350,000.

Toronto-Coin-Expo---May-30-31-2014---Canada's-Coin-Show!

Sir Wilfred Laurier adorns Canadian $1000 banknotes, and five consecutive 1935 and 1937 uncirculated $1000 notes are true trophy notes. The Canadian Paper Money Society's banknote registry states only 55 1935 and 47 1937 notes are recorded to date. Market values have been climbing steadily and consistently, making this a superb investment opportunity. These are the largest denomination banknotes issued by the Bank of Canada, never before offered in such a very attractive lot. These 10 piece crown jewel banknotes are expected to sell beyond the conservative estimate of $200,000.

Beyond a doubt, the 1878 Dominion of Canada $2 Payable Halifax is a true royal crown gem, with a winning combination of eye appeal, rarity and condition. There are now five of these 1878 $2 known, of which four are privately owned. The Bells sold the second best privately owned example at the 2010 RCNA sale, realizing $15,600 in well circulated condition. The featured note in the 2014 Bell Auction is the finest known, and professionally graded by PMG as Very Fine 25, and will quickly reach and should exceed the pre-sale estimate of $50,000.

Finally the last member of the featured "Royal" family is an 1865 $1 Royal Canadian Bank banknote and is the only $1 of this type known to exist in the world, so expect energetic bidding. The Duke of Wellington portrait is at the left, the Royal Canadian Bank seal is superimposed on the Royal Crest at centre. This splendid rarity was discovered in a purse in a secret compartment of an antique desk in England in April 2013. All notes of the Royal Canadian Bank are rare, and none are rarer than this. It is estimated to sell in excess of $20,000, as it does not currently exist in Canada's National Currency Collection.

Toronto-Coin-Expo---May-30-31-2014---Canada's-Coin-Show!

"Banknotes of this caliber are a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire, they are bought up and what seems like an astonishingly high price, but when they resurface again in years to come, their last sale price is looked at as a bargain" says Jared Stapleton owner of the Toronto Coin Expo.

These rare banknotes and many others will be available for public viewing at the Toronto Coin Expo prior to the Geoffrey Bell Auction on May 29 at the Toronto Reference Library, located at 789 Yonge Street. The Toronto Coin Expo is Canada's premier coin and banknote show and auction hosting world renowned coin dealers. For full information, please visit http://www.torontocoinexpo.ca.

I'm conflicted, should I go to the Friday show to get the early worm, or should I go Saturday to attend the seminars? There ought to be a discount for a 2-day ticket.

I attended this show over the weekend, and noticed that most dealers were using the same locking display cases. Where can they be purchased? I can't find any info on them online. Thanks.

Devlec it was a pleasure meeting you and seeing your nice coins. Never saw Libertad? Discussing coins with Roger, Jaime,Bill, Roger, Derek, Henry, Jerry and so many others is such a pleasure. This show is by far the best that there is in Ontario. A true pleasure to call you all my friends. MM
