What about a 1,000$ for 1,000$ gold coin?

Thanks for the news torgenco! I like this quote from the article: A spokesman for the mint says the new denominations are intended to fill a gap.
"They will be introduced on future collector coins to meet demand identified by our customer research," said communications manager Alex Reeves.
"At this point, we only have approval to use the new denominations. Until there is approval of specific coins from the minister of finance, we cannot discuss the themes or release dates for what we intend to use these new denominations."Meaning: Don't hold your breath, but get ready to eventually hold onto your wallet!

"A recent cabinet order authorizes the mint to produce two coins with face values of $1,000 and $1,250, destined for collectors rather than pockets or purses." They could be for 5oz gold coins selling for $15000. Looking forward to the new toonie, the design sounds very good. I believe this is the image:

Thanks for the link, torgemco
Finally, this gap will be filled. Collectors can't wait to see (and order) the coins. Yeah....and the toonie will find it's place in the albums, 2*2 ...etc

Quote:There are no limits to the depths of the RCM's gimmickry. As circulation coins become less and less relevant for day-to-day transactions, the RCM (and other mints) need to constantly come up with new ways to get people to buy their "coin" product. Most of the new NCLT issues are not for me, but I don't see the pattern changing anytime soon.

Looking forward to the new toonie! Been a couple of years since the last circulation design - HMS Shannon - 2012.

Same I enjoy collecting the canadian toonie because you don't have to break the bank to collect the older ones.
The HMS toonie in 2012 was a great idea. I like it when they have these coin programs. I'll admit the quality has been lacking but their at face value so no complaints here.

The quality of the "HMS Shannon" toonie was really bad. Even for circulation coin - never seen that the coins have such "damaged" edges. Unlike to this - old style 2012, 2011 and "Boreal forest" 2011 circulation coins were well done.

Hopefully these new toonies won't be the ugly small steel slugs we have now. Full sized coins please. Rome started making their coins smaller and smaller too. Look how that worked out.
