i cringed when I saw the yellow around 'ONE CENT' on the reverse - how does that even happen?

Looking at the yellow around ONE CENT and the wreath, I think it was gold plated at one point and the cleaning was done to get it off...?

I suppose time will tell if that is left-over gold-plating.
