Top 10 Collector Coins - " The Key Coins for Every Collection

Quote:
Published on Sep 22, 2014
Which coins are the most popular coins to start a collection? PCGS has the answer. Based on data from our website, we've compiled a definitive list of the top 10 Collector Coins.

Chances are many of you started with the coins on this list. These are the key dates, most wanted by series collectors. See if you agree with the selections.

Who is this "us" they speak of? Must be some elitist club they are talking about that doesn't represent the whole but jsut a niche of coin collectors.

I disagree that ANY of these coins are popular to start a collection with. The most popular are just what the average collector find to spark the persons fancy that gets them started. I think it is misleading on the claims and should jsut talk about the fact it is error and key dates. the comment of the video is very wrong, unless it is calling circulation/ungraded coin collectors to be NOT REAL collectors.

I think the title could have been worded better. Ironically a friend
and I just had a conversation about these exact coins the other night.
We concluded there are the investment collectors and those that collect
for just the love of the hobby.

These are probably some the top active investment coins, -many of us have
longed for one of these at some time or other. (Remember searching
through those pennies, nickels or dimes when you were a kid?) Still are?
These will probably all be worth substantially more in the future.

Just comparing to some commens, errors or the wildly popular moderns like State Quarters.
(I have many and always will).

Wow I'm surprised I even have three of them, not that I care about any of those three. (Don't care about any of the other seven either.) There are a lot of coins I'd much rather have.

I also have three of them but don't consider myself elitist. I'm just a collector.

I don't see any problem with that list. I only have 4 of them, but would not mind having a example of all 10.
Is PCGS saying this list .. based on coins sent in?

If I had a list, might be different.

Off the top of my head, coins I think most collectors could put together ...of course if they wanted.

Classic
1878 CC Morgan
1921 Peace
1916 Walker
1917 Standing lib quarter TY I
1932 D Washington
1916 D Mercury
1913 S Buffalo TY I
1939 D Jefferson (high grade)
1909 S VDB Lincoln
1877 Indian Head cent

Modern
2011 Reverse proof American silver Eagle
2008 Rev of 07 American silver eagle
2007 Washington dollar no edge letters
1996 High jump Olympic dollar
19xx Franklin DCAM proof
1998 S matte proof Kennedy
2004 D Wisconsin extra leaf quarter
1996 W Roosevelt
1997 matte proof Jefferson
1970 S Lincoln small date

I am sure everyone would have their own list ...

The problem is the stuck up attitude in the video that makes it sound like "if you don't have one of these, then you aren't a REAL coin collector". Not that people having them are elitist, just the dialog used and the elitist attitude of these sorts of places. You know because that 10 year old that just got a Wheat cent last week and got interested in coins either must now rush out to get those 10 coins listed or not be considered as a REAL collector. It might as well have been recorded by Gabriel Byrnes character as if talking to Steve Martins character from "Simple Twist of Fate".

but being a coin grading service made the video it probably thought its audience demographic or rich snooty collectors that go to auctions to buy slabbed PCGS coin for a couple million would be the only ones to see it. Us peasants that are on a forum where ~gasp~ CRH is discussed, are just lucky to be able to see the video.
