I dunno whether that is fake (I'm not an expert) but you can get the fakes by the boat load on the bay-casino.

I suppose the fact that the seller is from China is a warning.

I see several red flags on this one.

Slabbed (and cleaned) one for comparison sake. The lettering doesn't look at all alike on the two.

Ok, just confirmed it with an author of the GNL book. This coin is a Class 3 counterfeit, aka modern fake.

I also confirm, this is a fake. As well as the pillars this seller is selling.

Ben - Did analysis on these modern chinese fakes awhile ago (3-4 years ago) (GNL Type 3): Fe/Ni, Brass with some silver (5-15%) and/or German Silver usually (Cu/Zn/Ni).

At times they may be magnetic if Fe> ~25% but they normally keep iron below this value to avoid easy detection being magnetic.

I have the Russian CC piece in my Foreign Collections of CCs as a modern chinese counterfeit Fe/Ni alloy reference standard. They are ALL Chinese alloys as mentioned above ... all items he has for sale are of the same origin.

Additionally that E-Bay link with the other ebay seller from China and his Morgans ... same scenario ... same alloys.
