Ok we have all done it, but are you willing to admit it? What have you done to or used a coin for that was improper?
Used a dime as a screwdriver -
Used a quarter to scratch a lottery ticket -
Used a quarter as a gun target -
Flattened a coin under a train -
Used a coin to steady a wobbly table -

Took a penny with two quarters...cranked the wheel and got a "copper" souvenir back. I figured with 4 billion minted, they wouldn't miss this one.
I am laughing about the flattened coin under a train. I'll admit it, I did that too when I hung out with my buddies at the train tracks. Come'on...there was no PlayStation back then!
Also, to test our shooting skills, we would set up a penny 50 feet away and try to hit it with a .22 (with a scope). Some of us became very good shots.
Shame on me!

Oh I have done the smashing penny into a souvenir all the time. Actually I have one listed on ebay right now. The last one I listed sold for about $2.50 plus shipping!! Back Then ? Heck I just placed a quarter on the tracks the other day, but could not find it in the snow afterwards. I'm a BAD BAD boy !!! . Edited by collect4fun

All of the above, plus many other activities. My favorite is gluing two dimes and a nickel together to make "hillbilly" quarters.  |

Besides those listed; Pitched pennies... Used a quarter for a Hop Scotch marker. Put a copper cent behind a fuse in an electrical box. Used a nickel on the end of plastic mailing tape so I could find the end easier. I took different denominations and made a wind chime. catman  |

I've done the lottery ticket (I had a "lucky quarter" for a while- spent it after I quit winning!) and the screwdriver. I've also used a nickel to open a locked restroom door where someone thought it was funny to lock the door then crawl out from under it. Anyone else played "Quarter Bouncing"?

There is a small dealer in Dover that used a 1916-D Merc for a screwdriver to open a Capital Plastics Holder. I saw this one with my own eyes and almost died.

Umm I hope there are no law enforcement people here but you can grind a Cent down on the side-walk to make it into a dime for the Soda machine. My wife showed me how to do it.
You can also use English 10p coins in the place of Quarters in the Laundry Machines not much of a saving theses days.

some of you may be familiar with a game played in Australia Using the pre decimal pennies called two up.
still played in this day and age for money.

A loooooooooooong time ago, when I was young and foolish (In the Navy) I made silver finger rings with the date showing. Don't have any idea how many Walking Liberty Half-dollars I pounded into round forms and then drilled out the center, finishing with a file and emery paper. Has anyone around here ever seen such rings? |

I have seen the rings made from various coins and to be quite honest, they are really neat. As long as I never see a key date turned into one, I will appreciate the effort and craftmanship that goes into making them.
