I have recently started to look at serial numers and compare them to the CoinsandCanada website. I notice that all serial numbers are not listed under their denominations, earlier than 2006.

Is the reasoning that they have no value over face in any grade?

I believe it has to do with replacement issues....

So from 2006 onwards certian prefixes within certain serial ranges are used as replacements...

However prior to that it was certain prefixes were exclusively used for replacements and prior to that an asterix was used...
