Don't get me wrong, this is a lovely coin anyone ought to be proud to own. But unless I'm missing something, isn't it priced at least 10X what it should be? How much is that "+" worth? It doesn't make it a 65. See: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1880-O-Morg...em2edd853492Colligo ergo sum

I don't buy into this 64+ garbage. It's either 64 or it's 65. Just another way for investors to try to make another buck. TPGs, sheesh.

You're missing my point. Only in the last 10 years have they come up with "+" designation. My point is that this is just another way for investors to make a few more bucks. The TPGs have again caved to investors by creating a new grade. Your coin while beautiful should either be a 64 or a 65 period. If it's not quite 65 then its a 64. If it's better than 64 then it's a 65. The hobby is going down the tubes because of the TPGs selling out to investors at the sake of collectors.

I don't think it's a money grabbing scheme by the TPG's. I know a lot of other collectors would agree that sometimes when grading a coin, we feel it is too good for a certain grade, yet not nice enough to make the next one. I think in these cases, it is best to give the "+" designation rather than undergrading or overgrading. Yes, they have come up with it recently, which I feel is perfectly fine. Perhaps, noone though of the idea back then, or maybe it never made it past the drawing board until 10 years ago. As the times change, the hobby must change with it. |

We've always paid premiums for primo coins in grade. That's what the "+" is about. CxG's Morgan looks to have a PL reverse. Nice toning is worth it too.
For the record, I think it's silly too - I don't need you to tell me the coin is pretty - but I can see why it's done.

Back in the early '90s (I believe) There was a computer grading service that used to use decimal points in their grades, such as MS 65.2. They didn't last too long, but the "idea" of more precise grading isn't really a new one.  |
