There are a number of lines running from 11:00 to 5:00 under the 4 and they appear to be parallel to what I think you are seeing as 1 behind the 2. Better pics would help, though. Also, it is well known that the 1942/1 Philly minted coins exhibit a very clear 1 that shows no signs of attempts at removal - a very, very obvious die variety. The 1942/1D is far less obvious to the naked eye, and has been misreported with normal coins far more frequently. That's why I also answered for 1942D, because most queries relating to this subject in which the coin is normal are for D mint coins, not P mint coins. If you find a 1942/1P dime, you'll definitely know it, that I can guarantee. It's that obvious. Report this Post to the Staff
adobero1 Valued Member United States 363 Posts	Posted 10/24/2007 1:43 pm Yes, I agree. On the 42/1 P, the one is just to the left of the 2, and touching it. Another way to say it, is that it makes the 2 look like a 12. If it doesn't look like a 12, it's not that overdate. On my recent junk silver searches, I looked at dozens of 1942 dimes. Didn't find a thing of course! Editing my own post to say, not an overdate in the sense of repunched, but rather one caused by a doubled die. I forgot!
