what if it is something where you have multiples at a set price? btw x1000, I appreciate it that you are sinking your time and money into this forum solely for the education of people and for no gain. it is really amazing and says something about the kind of person you are

Quote: what if it is something where you have multiples at a set price? Ok? Quote: I appreciate it that you are sinking your time and money into this forum Thank you, but I'll tell you what.... It will be a while before I sink money into any more coding. I was badgered relentlessly for a new system with feedback. I put a grand into it, and a month later it was a ghost town and people were pestering me to put it back this way. The funniest part of it is, the biggest mouths in the bunch.... have never donated a single dime to this place.

, and this is just a thought, with the way it is now we could do something like a little forum auction where willing members donate a numismatic lot and the proceeds go to the forum. its just a rough idea.

Bobby - Thank you for all you do for us. Humbly suggest that if the selling forum is a PITA then kill it ... I am a member of the CCF to share/gain knowledge ... not to sell coins. The CCF is the absolute best coin forum on the web ... and I would leave in a heartbeat if it ever degenerated to a lower forum. Humbly suggest the 'sales' sub-forum is heading there ... Repeating my opening words ... kill it and focus on the Mission ... education and sharing. David

Just my 2 cents worth. The sellers killed the for sale section. I know people want as much as they can for their items but generally people were using the pocket now function and listing at prices they would expect to get on ebay. Since there are no fees here (thank you Bobby)Sellers were actually looking to make more return than they would on ebay. It was not everyone but it was enough to deter people from looking on the sale section on a regular basis. I liked the system and used it when I had collector coins for sale. I knew the coins were going to people who actually wanted them. Generally I was not looking for profit. I know a little bit about how much work went into to section and I am sorry it died. When selling here the first thing you have to understand is your audience knows the product, sometimes better than you. ultimately something is worth what some one else is willing to pay for it. So putting a Pocket it now option just shoots yourself in the foot. I will miss the section it was entertaining sometimes to peruse the asking prices for items then check sold prices on ebay. This site is an educational site mainly and I don't think Mom or Dad want it to be how people make a living. I have been away from coins for a little over a year. Just too much going on in my life right now to devote the resources. But I still visit here regularly its my family. The forum will continue to grow because people come here to learn not to sell or buy so much. So Dad thank you for the time effort and money you put into the the forum selling feature I am sorry it did not take off like we both expected it to.

Well said nicklesearcher and nohope. Bobby, your support of requests are much appreciated and I cannot think of any other forum off hand that listens to its members so much as this one. Thank you for your efforts and what ever happens with the sales sections has my support because I know you have the global view of the site and our best interests at heart. I am sorry that this particular experience left a bad taste in Bobby's mouth but look at the upside; we learn from every misstep and know what not to do next time. Thank you Bobby!

I agree 100% with nohope. Instead of looking at the sale section as an opportunity to pass on (or split) the savings in fees sellers attempted to get ebay prices. Without ebay variety there was really no reason for buyers to shop. On the flip side, many buyers seemed to be looking to pay grey sheet bid or less. Quote: Thank you, but I'll tell you what.... It never ceases to amaze me that people will frequent a "free" venue.....complain constantly if it doesn't exactly meet their needs and/or expectations......while never bothering to thank the people who do the heavy lifting, much less show their support in any tangible way. IMO if you aren't satisfied either move along or contribute in a meaningful way BEFORE you open your mouth to complain.

I do know that I have looked at that section in the past and thought the sellers were asking 2 much. That's why I never bought. And of course I wanted a better deal then I would get on ebay. Not rock bottom, but fair. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Do you? This is CCF, these people know Way more then I do about collecting then I do. But I'm also 47 years old and know how to shop[. I wouldn't, IF I were to sell, try to get anything but a fair price. People at CCF have given me More then fair prices on a few items I bought at the FUN show. I would do the same for any member of CCF if I could. Enough of the ramble. Sorry. Charlie

Just thinking out loud, but maybe in addition to everyone doing their own sales thing, have a once a week / month / year auction? You might get more eyeballs to the sale that way. Perhaps do it as a site fundraiser even with some portion of proceeds going to support CCF and the community. By offering space to sell, for free mind you, you have a competitive advantage as a seller to list product here. So say $1 from every sale in the fundraising auction goes to CCF. Still way less than we are paying ebay or Heritage or the like. Plus you get to support the CCF community.

bobby,
Was it costing more money to keep that part of the site running? I gather that was a deciding factor?

perhaps another rule might be that sellers must also be supporters.

I had been quite active selling coins on CCF for years (i do believe I had the most feedback out of all CCF sellers in the Pocket it Now system), but I stopped not because of any layout problems or any of the issuers mentioned here, my time available was the prime factor as there were several other things going on in my life at time.

Quote: Why are there not many post for sales? Even the mods and known dealers are not posting? If I could - I would put my entire inventory on here... and let CCF members have first crack. The reality of it is that I simply don't have the time. Coins are a hobby for me, and my real career, plus family and busy, active kids are recently sucking a lot of my spare time... I still use ebay, but I am lucky if I can post 5 listings in a week...
